The materials of this Primary Suite are the focal emphasis of the interior spaces, true to form of the home’s original Mid-Century structure. Quartzite, American Cherry, and Sapele offer a balance of warm organics and a refreshing color palette connects the space with the view. Experiencing the space feels balanced and congruent with the rest of the home, made possible with the exhaustive, intentional work at each phase.
MID-CENTURY LAKESIDE RETREAT
Spring Lake, MI
The original structure’s form was exposed and accentuated by moving partitions, vaulting ceilings, and honing what remained. New glazing brought more light and immersion with the quiet cove outside. Diligent planning and execution for the various assemblies like the tiled Trench Drain and Hidden Door allow the materials to speak for themselves while maintaining function. Each detail of the finishes were intentionally specified. Doors were mortised on-site for the hand-built jambs, millwork was custom-made to match the dimensions of the rest of the home, the hand-built cabinets feature book-matched grain, and more.
Thoughtful design, deliberate materials, and enduring craftsmanship help the space feel as if it was always meant to be as it now exists. The effort of the hands that made each piece can be seen and touched.
